Congratulations to coach Murray on such an accomplished career.
Not many can say they were a two time National Champion as well as 2 time coach of the year.

Is Rootes going to take over?
The OUA west will be much different next year. |

| I dont know much about hoops in Ontario but can someone explain to me how a 26 or 27 year old who just finished playing is even close to being ready to be a CIS coach? It seems odd to me that this Rootes guy is getting so much consideration. |

Rootes finished his playing career in 2008 and has been an assistant the past two years.
Successful young coaches are by no means unprecedented in Canadian university ball.
The best example I can give you is Brian Heaney.
Heaney won a national championship in 1965 with Acadia as an 18 year old and six
years later took the job at St. Mary's in 1971 at age 25.
Before he turned 27, he had a national championship with SMU in 1973.
By the time he was 32, he had three national championships so it is possible to
start young and be successful fairly quickly, given the right personality type and ability. |

Not complete until he has the "interim" tag removed, but that may just be a formality.
Will be interested to see how he interacts with players who are closer to peers. No more going out for beers with the players, and being that sympathetic shoulder to cry on or complain to. |

| Unlike many of the bloggers, Brock basketball will be alive and well this season. People forget that their point guard Joel Whitty played in less then half of their games last year. If he's healthy and they learn to share the rock and play team defence I think there's a happy ending on the escarpment campus. I watched Brad Rootes as a player and as an assistant and I have total confidence in him moving forward as the leader of this programme. Age, in his case is not an issue. It will be interesting to see who he surrounds himself as assistant coaches. |
